| Obverse description | An elaborate engraved border of interlaced acanthus scrollwork and floral ornaments frames the entire face, with four oval guilloche cartouches bearing the denomination numeral '1000' at each corner. At the top centre, an intaglio portrait vignette of Jan Pieterszoon Coen, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, is set within a wreath of oak and laurel with a ribbon caption below. The central text panel carries the issuing bank name, the bearer clause, and the denomination in bold letterpress, with the place and date of issue below and signature titles 'SECRETARIS' and 'PRESIDENT' flanking the lower field. |
