Obverse description The national arms of the Lao People's Democratic Republic are depicted centrally in the field, featuring the That Luang stupa flanked by stylised grain sheaves and a cogwheel at the base, surmounted by a decorative wreath. The legend THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC curves along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 1000 KIP appears in the lower field. A beaded border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Laos issued a sustained run of silver proof coins through the 2000s targeting the collector export market almost exclusively — virtually none entered domestic circulation, and the Bank of the Lao PDR functioned here more as a licensing authority than a monetary one. The gilt finish on this piece was applied to a specific design element after striking, a finishing step contracted through external minting facilities rather than done in-country, as Laos has no sovereign mint of its own.
