| Reverse description | The left vignette presents an aardvark in red intaglio set within a wavy-line guilloche panel, with the denomination legend below in a darker panel. To the right, a central vignette shows a farmer operating a tractor through a maize field in green intaglio, beside a figure of the Freedom Statue (breaking chains) rendered in dark red. | Comments |
Zambia adopted polymer for this denomination partway through an extended series run, making P#44 one of the earlier sub-Saharan African polymer issues outside South Africa. Three separate security printers — CBN Ottawa, G+D Leipzig, and SABNC Pretoria — each produced portions of the run, which accounts for subtle but documented variations in ink saturation and window placement across dates. Collectors working the series have to distinguish printer by prefix blocks, as the notes themselves carry no explicit printer identification in the visible text.
The 1000 Kwacha was withdrawn when Zambia redenominated in January 2013, replacing 1000 old Kwacha with a single new Kwacha.
