The P#37 was engraved by two of the Banque de France's most accomplished craftsmen working the period — Ernest Deloche on the obverse, Camille Beltrand on the reverse. Beltrand in particular came from a dynasty of engravers; his father Jules was among the most decorated in nineteenth-century French intaglio work. Ary Murnu, the Romanian designer, was primarily a painter and illustrator, and his collaboration with Parisian engravers on this series produced some of the more technically refined Romanian notes of the interwar period.
Romania was printing its high-denomination notes in Paris throughout the 1930s, a reflection of the domestic printing infrastructure's limitations at the time.
