Obverse description Central vignette with a bust portrait of the Spanish Baroque painter Bartolomé Murillo (1618–1682), set against a guilloche underprint with geometric greca border ornaments. The coat of arms of Spain appears alongside the portrait, with numeral value figures at two corners of the note. Intaglio-printed inscriptions name the issuing authority and the date of issue, Madrid, 9 January 1940, with three signature lines for the Governor, Auditor, and Cashier.

Reverse description The reverse carries a full-colour reproduction of a fragment from Murillo's painting 'Girls Counting Money', housed in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany, rendered in a pictorial vignette occupying the central field. Lettering in the issuing bank's name and the denomination in words frame the composition.
