Obverse lettering 1000 EL BANCO ESPAÑOL DE LA HABANA á la presentación de este billete pagará al portador MIL pesos fuertes en efectivo. Habana, 26 de Enero de 1870.
(Translation: The Spanish Bank of Havana Upon presentation of this note, the bearer will be paid One Thousand Pesos Fuertes in cash. Havana, January 26, 1870.)
Reverse description The reverse is unprinted on its face but bears several cancellation markings applied at time of demonetization: two large handwritten diagonal "Inútil" (Void) inscriptions crossing the note in ink, a circular official purple control stamp at centre reading "1000" with surrounding anti-counterfeiting legend, three punch-hole cancellations along the lower edge, and multiple handwritten signatures and oval blind-stamp impressions of bank officials confirming cancellation.
