Obverse lettering - URUGUAY - MIL PESOS
(Translation: Uruguay One thousand Pesos)
Reverse description The central field is divided into a grid of nine compartments by two intersecting horizontal and vertical bands, with a stylized circular solar motif at the intersection. Each compartment contains a distinct pictographic symbol drawn in a pre-Columbian or primitive artistic style, depicting abstracted figures including animals, tools, agricultural implements, and geometric forms, evoking themes of sustenance and civilization. The date 1969 appears in the lower exergue. The circular legend reads • F A O • in the upper arc and • FIAT PANIS • in the lower arc, in raised block lettering within the border.
