| Obverse description | Predominantly green and light brown, the obverse is centred on an intaglio portrait vignette of Uruguayan poet Juana de Ibarbourou. Face value numerals appear at lower left, lower right, and upper right, with the denomination in words at lower centre; the issuer inscription BANCO CENTRAL DEL URUGUAY runs across the upper field. Security elements include a partially visible security thread bearing the transparent legend URUGUAY, a central allegory vignette designed to register precisely with its counterpart on the reverse, and a grey oval at upper right carrying a latent image that alternates between the letters BCU and a portrait of Artigas; upper left bears two concentric raised circles as a tactile aid for the visually impaired. Serial numbers appear in two orientations: vertical in red at upper left and horizontal in black at lower right. |
