António Teixeira de Sousa, one of the two governors whose signature appears on this note, was a prominent figure in the dying years of the Portuguese constitutional monarchy — he would serve as the last Prime Minister before the October 1910 revolution that abolished the throne entirely. His presence on a colonial banking instrument dated just a year before that rupture gives the note an unintentional timestamp.

Bradbury Wilkinson produced the plates in London for Banco Nacional Ultramarino, the Lisbon-based institution chartered to handle Portuguese overseas territories. The two signature combinations indicate at minimum two distinct issue periods within the 1909 series, both predating the Republic's sweeping reorganization of colonial finance.
