Syndicate Bank was one of the original Canara Saraswat group of banks founded in Udupi in 1925, and for decades its travellers' cheques competed directly with those issued by State Bank of India at a time when foreign exchange controls made such instruments the only practical way for Indian travelers to carry funds abroad. The specimen designation here indicates a salesman's sample or internal approval copy — never valid for payment and typically punched or overprinted to prevent encashment.

Syndicate Bank was amalgamated into Canara Bank on 1 April 2020, ending its independent existence after 95 years.
