| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena facing left, the goddess depicted wearing a crested Corinthian helmet whose bowl is decorated with a griffin in flight, together with a single-pendant earring, a beaded necklace, and an aegis visible at the neck and shoulder. The portrait is rendered in the refined Hellenistic style characteristic of late Syracusan coinage, with careful attention to the detailed surface ornamentation of the helmet crest and cheekpieces. The field is generally plain, with the design elements filling the flan in a bold and assured manner typical of the Fifth Democracy period. |
