Attaleia in Pamphylia was founded by Attalos II of Pergamon around 150 BC as a naval base and commercial port, one of several coastal foundations bearing his name. The city minted autonomous bronze issues of this approximate scale throughout the late Hellenistic period, before Roman provincial authority gradually absorbed local coinage prerogatives in the first century BC.
