| Reverse description | A highly detailed right-facing portrait bust of Saint John Paul II dominates the central field, rendered in high relief with an antique finish, wearing his ornately decorated pontifical vestments with intricate scrollwork. The surrounding field features an elaborate decorative border of finely engraved foliage, acorns, and oak leaves interspersed with winged cherubs and the papal coat of arms. The inscription ST. JOHN PAUL II CANONIZATION arcs across the upper field, with the canonization date 27.04.2014 inscribed to the left. The silver specification 1.5 OZ AG.999 appears in the lower right field within the decorative border. |

| Additional information |
Burkina Faso has issued commemorative coinage through the BCEAO framework but holds no particular connection to John Paul II's canonization beyond the licensing arrangements that route papal memorial issues through cooperative African franc-zone mints. The canonization itself took place on April 27, 2014, alongside John XXIII — an unusual double ceremony engineered by Francis to sidestep the traditional second miracle requirement for John XXIII.
These issues were produced for the collector market exclusively; no 1500 CFA denomination circulated in Burkina Faso.
