| Additional information |
Gadoufaoua, in the Ténéré Desert of northern Niger, is one of the world's most concentrated fossil sites — the locality where Paul Sereno's expeditions in the 1990s recovered near-complete skeletons of Nigersaurus and Sarcosuchus imperator, the so-called SuperCroc. This coin is part of a broader African numismatic program producing small-format gold pieces tied to natural heritage themes, typically issued for collector export rather than domestic circulation. Niger itself has no meaningful gold coin tradition for everyday use.
