Obverse description The Dominican Republic coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting crossed flags and a Bible surmounted by a cross, flanked by a laurel branch to the left and a palm branch to the right, tied at the base. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The legend REPUBLICA DOMINICANA arcs along the upper periphery, with a small five-pointed star positioned at the base below the inner beading. The overall execution is crisp and characteristic of a proof essai strike.

Reverse description The denomination 2 CENTAVOS is displayed prominently in two lines across the central field, with the numeral 2 above and CENTAVOS below. A small decorative sprig of olive and palm branches is rendered beneath the denomination. The date 1877 appears in the exergue along the lower periphery. The legend DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAT arcs around the upper portion of the coin, flanked by two small five-pointed stars, all within a beaded inner circle.
