The State of Bolívar — one of Colombia's sovereign states before the 1886 constitution collapsed the federal system into a centralized republic — struck a series of pattern pieces in 1890 that never reached circulation. By that point, the state had already lost its monetary authority under the Regeneración reforms of Rafael Núñez, making these patterns a bureaucratic curiosity at best: coins designed for a fiscal system that no longer legally existed.
The copper specimen corresponds to KM#Pn29b, indicating at least two metal variants were prepared, almost certainly including a silver or brass strike.
