Reverse description The large numeral '2' dominates the upper field, with the denomination 'CENTÉSIMOS' inscribed in bold relief beneath it. The word 'ESSAI' appears above the numeral at the top of the field, identifying this piece as a pattern or trial strike. An open palm wreath, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, frames the denomination on either side and converges at the lower field. A continuous inner border of beads follows the raised rim, consistent with the obverse treatment.

Additional information

Uruguay's 1924 coinage reform was driven by a push to replace the old copper centésimo series with a more durable base metal. These essai pieces — struck in Paris, almost certainly at the Monnaie de Paris — were submitted as pattern proposals and never approved for circulation. The nickel composition was ultimately rejected in favor of other options, leaving the essai run with extremely limited survivors.
