Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II after Arnold Machin's celebrated portrait, depicting the Queen wearing a tiara and robes with naturalistic hair detail. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim and COOK ISLANDS along the right rim. The date 1973 appears in the lower exergue. The design is rendered with fine relief against a deeply mirrored proof field.

The commemorative legend TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORONATION arcs along the upper rim, with JUNE SECOND 1953-1973 across the upper field. The denomination TWO DOLLARS appears along the lower rim, flanked by pellets, with the engraver's initials JP visible at lower left in the field.
