Pitcairn Islands has no mint of its own and no domestic currency in circulation — the territory uses the New Zealand dollar for actual commerce. These collector issues are authorized by the island's government but produced entirely for the numismatic export market, a revenue stream that matters considerably for a community of fewer than sixty permanent residents. The Melanostomias biseriatus, a deep-sea dragonfish found in the South Pacific, has no particular connection to Pitcairn's maritime history or fisheries.
