Comments

Place Fleur de Lys is a shopping mall in Québec City, and this 1986 note is a merchant scrip — a privately issued coupon currency redeemable only within the mall's participating retailers. These were fairly common promotional tools among large Canadian shopping centres during the 1980s, designed to drive foot traffic and discourage redemption for cash. The issuer had no banking authority; these circulated purely by commercial agreement.

Survival rate is high — most were never spent.
