Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of the young King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair swept back from the brow, executed in the neoclassical style of the Paris Mint. The engraver's signature BARRE appears in small letters below the truncation, with the mint mark A to the lower left and the date 1868 in the exergue. The circumferential legend reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ (George I, King of the Greeks), separated from the inner field by a continuous beaded border.
