| Obverse description | Central device depicts the early arms of the Chilean Republic: two volcanoes rising from a mountainous landscape beneath a radiant sun with a human face, all enclosed within a laurel and oak wreath. A tablet inscribed 'A.D 1818' appears at the base of the central device, referencing the year of Chilean independence. The surrounding legend reads 'EL ESTADO DE CHILE CONST. INDEPENDIENTE' arranged around the full circumference of the coin in Latin characters. The overall design is executed in low relief characteristic of the early republican coinage produced at the Santiago mint. |
