Obverse description Armored and draped bust of King Charles IV facing right, his hair elaborately coiffed and tied, set within a plain field. The royal portrait is rendered in the neo-classical style typical of late 18th-century Spanish colonial coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads CAROL·IV·D·G·HISP·ET IND·R·, proclaiming him King of Spain and the Indies by the grace of God. The date 1790 appears in the lower field beneath the bust, flanked by dots.
