| Obverse description | Central field displays the quartered Royal Arms of Castile and León within a plain shield, showing the castles of Castile in the first and fourth quarters and the lions of León in the second and third quarters, with Granada in base. The shield is rendered in the characteristic flat, schematic style of hammered cob coinage. The mint mark, assayer initial, and denomination numeral II appear to the left of the shield, with partial Latin legend visible around the periphery. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of macuquina (cob) coinage struck by hand on roughly cut planchets. |
