Additional information

Part of Lithuania's ongoing ethnographic regions series, this issue commemorates Aukštaitija — the highland region considered the cultural and linguistic heartland of the Lithuanian language itself. The dialect spoken there formed the primary basis for the standardized Lithuanian written language codified in the nineteenth century, making the region's symbolic weight considerable within national identity politics.

Lithuania joined the eurozone on 1 January 2015, the last of the three Baltic states to do so.
