Obverse description The nickel-brass centre features a stylised composition commemorating the 20th anniversary of Cyprus's accession to the European Union. At centre-left, a map outline of Cyprus is depicted in the field, overlaid with vertical and horizontal lines evoking the EU flag's symbolism and the interconnection of member states. The anniversary dates '2004-2024' appear in the lower field. A circular legend in Greek script runs along the upper and lower periphery of the inner disc, reading the full name of the issuing state. The outer copper-nickel ring is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union.

Reverse description The standard common reverse design for all 2 Euro coins of the Eurozone, designed by Luc Luycx, is displayed. A large numeral '2' occupies the left portion of the nickel-brass centre, while a relief map of Europe without borders extends across the right side of the field, with the denomination legend 'EURO' superimposed upon it. Six horizontal lines are visible to the left of the map, representing the non-EU European nations. The outer copper-nickel ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union, arranged in a continuous circle.

Additional information

Issued to mark the twentieth anniversary of Cyprus joining the European Union in 2004, this coin commemorates accession alongside nine other states in the largest single enlargement in the bloc's history. Cyprus's entry was complicated — the island remained divided, and only the government-controlled southern portion acceded, with EU law suspended in the north pending reunification that has never come.
