| Obverse description | The nickel-brass centre features a stylised composition commemorating the 20th anniversary of Cyprus's accession to the European Union. At centre-left, a map outline of Cyprus is depicted in the field, overlaid with vertical and horizontal lines evoking the EU flag's symbolism and the interconnection of member states. Issued to mark the twentieth anniversary of Cyprus joining the European Union in 2004, this coin commemorates accession alongside nine other states in the largest single enlargement in the bloc's history. Cyprus's entry was complicated — the island remained divided, and only the government-controlled southern portion acceded, with EU law suspended in the north pending reunification that has never come.
