Crete has not been an independent issuing authority in the modern era — it was incorporated into Greece in 1913. A "2 Euros Pattern" attributed to Crete in 2004 falls into the broad and murky category of fantasy pieces: coins struck by private mints or medallion producers and assigned fictional issuers to appeal to collectors. No legitimate Cretan monetary authority existed to authorize this piece.
