The P#56 series was issued as part of Zambia's 2012 rebasing, when the kwacha was redenominated at a ratio of 1,000 old units to 1 new — wiping out the inflationary residue of decades of fiscal turbulence and resetting the currency's face values to something functional for daily transactions. The 2 Kwacha sits at the lower end of that rebuilt system.
Two printers shared production across the series run: De La Rue's Nairobi facility handled some output, Oberthur in France the rest. Minor differences in ink density and thread placement can sometimes distinguish the two print origins on close inspection.
