The 2 Leones note was introduced as part of Sierra Leone's 2022 redenomination, in which the Bank of Sierra Leone replaced the existing Leone at a rate of 1,000 old Leones to 1 new Leone — a move intended to address the cumulative effects of decades of inflation that had reduced the original currency to near-meaningless face values. Thomas De La Rue handled production, as they have for the majority of Sierra Leone's note issues since independence.
