The Cassa Veneta dei Prestiti was an Austrian military finance institution established in 1918 to manage currency in the occupied Veneto region during the final year of the First World War. Its notes were denominated in Italian lire — a deliberate policy choice intended to ease acceptance among a population that had used lire for decades and regarded Austrian kronen with suspicion.
The occupation ended with the Austro-Hungarian collapse in November 1918, leaving these notes in circulation for only months. Italian authorities subsequently demonetized them, though the short window meant considerable quantities survived unspent.
