Lithuania's 1993 banknote series was the first fully sovereign issue after the litas was reintroduced in June 1993, replacing the interim talonas at a fixed rate of 100 talonai to 1 litas. The reintroduction was backed by a currency board arrangement pegging the litas to the U.S. dollar at 4:1 — an unusually rigid commitment for a country only two years out of Soviet administration.
Thomas De La Rue printed the entire series, a fairly predictable choice for a newly independent state without its own security printing infrastructure. At just over 12 million printed, this denomination sat in the middle of the series by volume.
