Obverse description Plain uniface obverse field with no design elements, inscriptions, or devices, consistent with a pattern or trial piece in which only the reverse die was prepared. The smooth, unadorned surface is bordered by a beaded inner rim.

Reverse description The crowned imperial German eagle displayed with spread wings occupies the central field, its head turned to the right and its breast bearing a quartered heraldic shield. The eagle is rendered in high relief with finely detailed feathering and ornamental foliate elements at the base. The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by small five-pointed stars, with the date 1876 incorporated into the right side of the circular legend. The denomination ZWEI MARK appears in large letters across the lower portion of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
