Witkowo's district authority issued these marki notes in 1919 during the administrative chaos immediately following the Greater Poland Uprising, when the newly liberated western territories were operating ahead of any coherent Polish central monetary policy. Local powiat offices across the Poznań region filled the vacuum with their own emergency paper, coordinating with whatever regional printers were available.
