Additional information

The 2 Mohar series under Tribhuvan ran across an exceptionally turbulent stretch of Nepali history — Tribhuvan himself ascended the throne as a child of five in 1911, leaving real power firmly in the hands of the Rana prime ministers who effectively ran the kingdom as hereditary autocrats. The coins issued in his name throughout this period reflect that fiction: a ruling monarch whose authority was largely ceremonial until his dramatic escape to the Indian embassy in 1950.

KM#695 spans over two decades of Rana dominance, meaning examples struck in the early years of the run differ subtly in die work from later issues.
