Obverse description Cast copper cash coin of the Joseon Dynasty featuring the four-character reign inscription 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo, meaning 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure') arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square hole, with one character placed in each cardinal position: 常 (above), 通 (right), 寶 (left), and 平 (below). The characters are rendered in bold, regular-script (楷書) Chinese calligraphy with raised strokes standing prominently against the flat, unadorned field. A wide, plain rim encircles the design, typical of Joseon-period cast coinage. The square central perforation is framed by a raised square border, a hallmark of East Asian cash coin tradition.
