La Granadella, a small municipality in Les Garrigues comarca (Lleida province), issued these plastic emergency pieces during the Spanish Civil War — part of the broader Republican zone currency crisis that erupted after hoarding and flight capital stripped conventional coinage from daily commerce beginning in 1936.
