Comments

The Banco Nacional Hondureño was a short-lived private institution operating under concession from the Honduran government during the late 1880s, a period when Honduras had no central bank and commercial banking was conducted almost entirely through foreign-backed private concerns. The American Bank Note Company's involvement was typical of the period — ABNC held a near-monopoly on Central American fiduciary printing, and their New York plates were used repeatedly across the region with relatively minor modifications between clients.

The S-prefix in the Pick reference signals this as a private or provincial issue, and surviving examples are uncommon. Honduras's banking sector collapsed repeatedly through the 1890s, and the Banco Nacional Hondureño did not outlast the decade.
