Alderney issued its first-ever coin with this piece, striking it to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's visit to the island in 1989. The Channel Islands dependency had previously relied entirely on British coinage for circulation, making this a genuinely inaugural issue rather than an addition to an existing series. Production was handled by the Royal Mint.
