Reverse description Bold cross potent occupying the central field, dividing the design into four quadrants each bearing alternating castles and lions derived from the Royal Arms of Spain. The cross arms extend nearly to the coin's irregular flan edge, as is characteristic of Mexican cob coinage of the period. A partial circular legend in Latin surrounds the cross, though much of it is lost to the irregular planchet strike. The overall strike is typical of macuquina production, with strong relief on the cross and quadrant devices but uneven margins throughout.
