Reverse description Central device depicts two crowned hemispheres resting upon stylised waves, symbolising the Old and New Worlds of the Spanish Empire. Flanking the globes are the Pillars of Hercules, each surmounted by a crown and bearing a banner inscribed PLUS to the left and VLTR to the right, together forming the motto PLUS VLTRA. The date 1770 and the assayer initials JM appear in the lower field, flanked by small rosette stops. The encircling legend VTRA · QVE · VNVM reads around the periphery.
