Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Ferdinand VII facing right, occupying the central field of the host coin. A rectangular lattice countermark applied in 1841 by Cuban authorities is stamped over the king's neck and lower portrait area, consisting of a grid pattern with a six-pointed star in the upper-left cell. The circular legend around the bust reads FERDN·VII· to the left and DEI·GRATIA to the right, with the date 1813 positioned at the base of the portrait.

In 1841, Cuba's colonial administration authorized countermarking circulating Spanish coinage to validate it for continued local use — a pragmatic response to chronic coin shortages that plagued Caribbean trade throughout the early nineteenth century. The host coin here is a Madrid-minted 2 Reales, KM#474.3, already in circulation before receiving the Cuban punch.

Countermarked pieces vary considerably in host coin condition at the time of punching, and the mark's placement is inconsistent across surviving examples.
