Obverse description Central field dominated by the quartered Royal Arms of Castile and León, incorporating the Portuguese escutcheon, surmounted by a royal crown. The mint mark and assayer's initials appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral to the right. The entire device is set within a partial circular legend in the field. The flan is irregular and cob-style, characteristic of New World macuquina coinage of the period.
