Obverse description Central device comprises the quartered Royal Arms of Spain surmounted by a royal crown, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in the principal quarters with the Granada pomegranate in base, all within a shield set in the field. The assayer initial R appears to the left of the shield and the denomination numeral 2 to the right. The circular legend surrounding the design reads FRD·VI·D·G·HISP·ET IND·R, identifying Fernando VI as King of Spain and the Indies by the grace of God, separated by small floral or rosette ornaments.
