The Roue is a local complementary currency issued by Association S.E.V.E. in the Aix-en-Provence area, part of a broader wave of French monnaies locales complémentaires that expanded significantly after the 2014 French law on social and solidarity economy formally recognized their status. S.E.V.E. — Solidarité, Écologie, Vivre Ensemble — designed the Roue specifically to circulate within a network of member businesses and associations committed to ethical and ecological commerce, with convertibility to euros at a fixed one-to-one rate for participating members.
