Obverse description Central field features the fantastical arms of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands: a shield bearing a palm tree, supported on either side by sea-lion supporters, with two crossed flags and a sunburst roundel in chief. Ribbon scrolls at the base of the shield bear the inscriptions ANDAMAN, ISLANDS, and NICOBAR. The peripheral legend ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS arcs across the upper field, while the date 2011 appears in the lower field flanked by two five-pointed stars.

Reverse description A highly detailed depiction of a coconut crab (Birgus latro) occupies the right-center field, rendered in fine relief with prominent claws, segmented legs, and characteristic enlarged chelipeds. To the left of the crab, the numeral 2 is inscribed in large format above the denomination legend RUPEES in Latin script, with additional inscriptions in Bengali script appearing at the upper left, left, and lower portions of the field. The engraver's initials JL appear at the lower right of the design.
