Obverse description The obverse is entirely occupied by a dense, spiraling multi-line Persian inscription in Nasta'liq script, arranged within an interlaced circular cartouche framed by a beaded border. The legend enumerates the Shahada followed by the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam, a distinctive hallmark of early Safavid coinage introduced under Shah Isma'il I to assert the dynasty's Shi'a identity. The tightly compressed calligraphy fills the field from center to rim, with individual lines curving organically to fit the circular flan. The hammered flan is irregular in outline with slightly raised edges characteristic of early Safavid silver issues. No pictorial motifs are present; the design is entirely epigraphic.
