Obverse description Central field occupied by the Shi'a Kalima in three lines of elegant nastaliq script, reading 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The inscription is arranged horizontally across the flan, divided by a ruled line, with subsidiary text visible in the lower segment. The legends are boldly struck in high relief against a plain field, characteristic of Safavid hammered coinage.
