| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a prominent cartouche containing the Shia declaration of faith (kalima) in bold Nasta'liq calligraphic script, with the names of the Twelve Imams arranged in a circular or multi-line composition around the central inscription. The legend fills the field in characteristic Safavid style, with additional marginal inscriptions running along the upper periphery of the irregularly-shaped flan. The strike is typical of hammered Safavid coinage, with uneven flan edges and areas of weak relief. |
