| Reverse description | Central device features a tall oil palm tree in full frond, rising from a grassy ground, rendered in fine detail with naturalistic foliage and a textured trunk. The word SPECIMEN appears above the date 1938, the numerals flanking the base of the palm tree in a split arrangement. The upper legend reads BRITISH WEST AFRICA, and the lower legend reads TWO SHILLINGS, both arcing around the periphery within a beaded border. Decorative foliate scroll ornaments appear on either side of the lower legend. The bimetallic format is evident, with the design elements distributed across both the silver centre and the brass outer ring. |
