Additional information

The Provveditorato issues of the 1680s were struck against the backdrop of the Great Turkish War, with Venice fighting to hold its Adriatic and Dalmatian territories even as it was simultaneously losing the Morea campaign's early momentum. Copper coinage for these provinces was a practical necessity — small-denomination exchange for garrisoned towns and coastal trading posts that had little access to Venetian silver.

CNI VI places this type among a cluster of issues whose die workmanship varied considerably between strikes, reflecting the limitations of provincial minting rather than the Zecca in Venice proper.
